I have now tried the soap nuts, and am quite satisfied with the result! There is always the question if I've already decided that they work because I really WANT them to work, but I don't think so...
These are the facts: the nuts themselves have a bit of a odd smell, but the laundry smells nothing but clean and fresh. Since I don't use fabric softener, the it might have come out a bit less soft than it would have with softener, but not bad at all.
On Andrew's clothes there were some spag bol stains which didn't come out altogether. Then again, I didn't use any stain remover, and only washed at 40 degrees so they might not have washed out totally even with normal wash powder.
I'm now doing a 60 degree wash, with a good few stains on the clothes. Some I have used stain removal on, others not, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
There are bubbles in the washing machine, so there is clearly something soapy in the nuts.
My mission for tomorrow is to buy gall soap, which is supposed to be out-standing for treating stains with.
The testing goes on!!
